Rose is a typical Mediterranean village with houses along the seafront.
In antiquity, it was a Greek settlement called Punto Roza. It got destroyed by the Saracens in 867.
The significance of Rose is mentioned in the official records of the Byzantine Emperor Konstantin Porphyrogennetos in 841.
Rose was used as a shelter for sailboats due to its favorable location.
The hills of the Lustica peninsula protected Rose from the winds. It was also used as a quarantine and customs port for ships that enter Boka.
